Accident report

Tell us what happened. We will take it from there.

Report a car accident online in a few minutes. You do not need policy documents or a claim reference to begin — add what you know and a Sterling claims specialist will review the next steps with you.

If anyone is injured, the road is obstructed or there is immediate danger, call 999 first. Do not complete this form at the roadside if you are in a live traffic lane or feel unsafe. Move somewhere safe before continuing with the online report.

Photo guide

What a useful photo looks like

Only take photographs when it is safe to do so. Never step into a live traffic lane, and never delay getting yourself to safety in order to get a picture.

Example photograph showing the complete front of a car taken straight on from a few metres away
Front of vehicle
1. Front of your vehicle. Stand back far enough to include the full width of the car.
Example photograph showing the complete rear of a car taken straight on from a few metres away
Rear of vehicle
2. Rear of your vehicle. Same again from behind, with the boot and bumper visible.
Example close-up photograph of a damaged car wing showing a dent and paint damage
Damage close-up
3. Damage close-up. Close enough to see the damage, far enough to see where it is on the car.
Example photograph of the other vehicle involved in a collision, showing its damage and position
Other vehicle
4. Other vehicle. If one was involved and it is safe, show its position and damage.
Example photograph of a UK number plate taken close enough for every character to be readable
Number plate
5. Number plate. Every character needs to be readable, so get close and hold steady.

Not sure whether to report it?

Report it anyway. It costs you nothing to have the situation reviewed, and it is easier to act early than to reopen things weeks later. If it turns out we cannot help, we will tell you.
